How to Resolve the MAX_JOIN_SIZE Error

There are rare cases where a site using Independent Analytics may generate the following error message:

SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1104

The SELECT would examine more than MAX_JOIN_SIZE rows;

This occurs because the host has reduced the site’s MAX_JOIN_SIZE and/or disabled SQL_BIG_SELECTS. To address this issue, we’ve created a simple way to force all of the analytics queries to use SQL_BIG_SELECTS.

To resolve this error, please add the following line of code to your wp-config.php file:

define('IAWP_USE_BIG_SELECT', true);

Once added, the analytics should start working again immediately, and you will no longer see any error messages.
