Independent Analytics creates an anonymous ID for each visitor by combining their IP address, user agent, and the site’s unique salt token. These variables go through a one-way hash, making it virtually impossible to reverse the generated ID to its original parts.
However, if you want even greater assurance of visitor privacy, you can modify visitor IP addresses before they’re hashed so that even if an ID was cracked, it still wouldn’t contain their IP address. For instance, you could truncate the IP address by removing the last octet.
Here is the filter function you can use to modify the IP address:
add_filter('iawp_visitor_ip_address', function (string $ip): string {
// Modify the IP here
return $ip;
});
Please understand that modifications you make here can impact Independent Analytics’ ability to accurately track the number of visitors your site receives and to attribute events to visitors accurately.
Independent Analytics accepts both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
