The visitor’s IP address is hashed with their User Agent string and a salt to create a unique ID. Only this unique ID is stored in the database. This allows Independent Analytics to recognize repeat visitors without storing personal data. It’s important to note that the ID is generated with a hashing algorithm rather than an encryption algorithm, so there is no key to reverse the values.
